Gotska Sandön is the most isolated island in the Baltic Sea. The voyage from Nynäshamn on the Swedish mainland takes a little more than three hours. If you choose to go from Fårösund on Gotland the voyage will take around two hours. The boat will be cancelled if winds are too hard. Nevertheless the voyage can be quite rough. Sensitive people are encouraged to take measures against seasickness.
After arriving on Gotska Sandön you will sometimes have to walk several kilometers in sand, depending on where landing takes place. There is no harbour on Gotska Sandön. Equip yourself with suitable shoes and protection from rain. Your luggage will be transported by staff on the island.
You can buy a map on the island as well as postcards, books and t-shirts. You have to bring all the food you need. Please include food for an extra day. Sometimes you will have to stay an extra day on the island if winds are unsuitable.
